Father God, war is a grim reality our news media has never ending
reports of the tumult, misery and horror in this suffering world.
There are many countries torn apart by strife and our hearts are
breaking for the innocent buried beneath rubble, the men, women
and children attacked and murdered in their villages and the
families struggling to survive in appalling conditions. We pray for
peace and we pray that the hearts and minds of their leaders, those
perpetuators of violence, may find wisdom and not be blinded by
self interest and hate. May love and compassion prevail and the
spirit of reconciliation be poured upon them. May those who work
for justice and peace be a force for good and help us, Lord, to lift
our eyes high and give us the Grace to pray for those who would
wish harm.
Father God on this Remembrance Day, we bring to you our prayers
for the world, for our country and for our town. We remember with
love and gratitude those who gave their lives that we might live in
freedom …. Freedom to be true to ourselves, freedom to speak our
thoughts, freedom to march in protest.
We bring before You all those who have served in our armed forces
never forgetting the sacrifices made by our allies from the
Commonwealth and Colonies, people of all faiths and none and we
hold in our hearts those who serve today. Across the years men
and women have put their own safety at risk to secure peace for
others. Names we may never know but each one known to you.
We cherish their memory.
As we remember those whose lives were lost in the theatres of war,
in this century and the last, we are very aware that wars rage
today. May we never forget the sacrifice made by those who were
left behind, never to see loved ones again. People who grew up or
have grown up or will grow up without a parent, partner, sibling, or
friend and those who have or will grow old alone. May God give
