WAREHAM UNITED REFORMED CHURCH
Defining Christianity
Dear Friends,
At our monthly evening Discussion Group
we tried to define Christianity in about 50
words. It was very difficult. Here are some
of the results:
Jesus, born at Bethlehem, was and is the
Son of God. By shouldering our sins and
dying on the cross, he opened a direct route for each individual to
God. He taught His disciples to love God with all their strength and
their neighbours as themselves.
God is loving, immortal, all powerful and all knowing. He sent
Jesus to preach the gospel of love. Jesus was rejected and
crucified but rose from the dead. He is our example. By God's
grace, we can achieve eternal life. The Holy Spirit is sent to help us
fulfil Christ's mission.
Everyone's done wrong things. These separate us from a totally
holy God and would've stopped us having eternal life, but God
intervened. Showing amazing love for us, His Son Jesus took
responsibility. All we have to do is genuinely say we're sorry,
knowing that Jesus' death and resurrection have covered
everything.
God, the creator of all, is love. His son Jesus, led a perfect human
life, revealed God's nature, and formed a new, forgiving covenant
of grace with believers, through His death and resurrection.
He commanded His followers, enabled by the Holy Spirit, to follow
His example of loving service to all.
You will notice that the definitions all vary a little. Why not have a
go at your own definition of Christianity in about 50 words?
Every blessing
Janet
