As Swanage came into view

                                              the priest may have
quickened his pace to be on
                                              time for the service.

                                              St Mary’s Parish Church in
                                              Swanage was a chapel of
                                              ease to Worth until 1487

when it had its first rector.
                                              The tower is the oldest
                                              remaining part of the

building and it is thought it
could have been used as a
                                              refuge from seafaring

                                              marauders when the sea
                                              used to stretch inland from
                                              the present coastline.
