The small pool on Dancing
Ledge was created by
quarrymen in the early 20
th
century to enable the boys
from Durnford School to
swim safely all year round.
No wetsuits or even
swimming trunks for these
boys - they swam in the
nude.
The tracks of the cart
carrying stone to the boats
can still be seen .
