WAREHAM UNITED REFORMED CHURCH

                             Living the Kingdom

       Dear Friends,

We are facing a difficult Winter. Energy prices and food are high
and some may go without. We hear of people, especially the
elderly, frightened to put the heating on because they are worried
about bills. Not only uncomfortable but dangerous, if you are frail or
have a health condition. May I urge anyone who is feeling like this
to contact your energy supplier, who should be able to help. We
hear of some who are in work who are only eating once a day. As
for those on benefits, most have an almighty struggle to make ends
       meet.

Jesus' life and ministry gave us the template for living the Kingdom.
He demonstrated love and healing, especially among the poor in
society. Worldly values of materialism, prestige and fame have no
place in His kingdom. Instead Jesus taught that we should love our
neighbours, whoever they are. It is sometimes difficult to accept
those who are different from us. Jesus showed that we should care
for people regardless of race, gender or social standing.

We all have a challenge this Winter to look out for those who are
suffering. There is a food bank in Wareham where we can donate
food and a community fridge at 'Not Just Sundaes' Community
Cafe. There will be the opportunity to donate money to various
charities. We can keep an eye out for those we know who might
be vulnerable. Who knows the person we help may be Jesus in
       disguise.

       As John Bell’s hymn says:
                              Jesus Christ is waiting,
                               waiting in the streets;
                              No one is his neighbour,
                                 All alone he eats.

                                                    Every blessing ~ Janet
