You’ve been
waiting for
OVER THE PAST DECADE, BMW’s foundation as the Ultimate
Driving Machine has seen a few cracks develop—mostly as a
result of shots aimed at the automaker by the automotive press
and the loud cohort of enthusiasts that make up the brand’s
core audience. It’s true, BMWs have gotten heavier, more
technologically-laden, and the line has expanded to include the
likes of SAVs and Gran Coupes which challenge both physics and
traditional automotive definitions.
Thus, critics insist that today’s BMWs are no longer as dynamic,
engaging, or fun as their predecessors.
Fortunately, the new G20 3 Series emphatically rejects those
critiques—and does so in Comfort (Mode).
The 2020 330i provides three unique driving modes, with the
default being the aptly named Comfort Mode, though it could
easily be renamed “Perfect.” The factory settings make for an
engaging, comfortable experience in all day-to-day driving
situations. Acceleration is prompt without being touchy, and
the steering is Goldilocks-balanced. While the suspension is
compliant, there’s no floating feeling and the 330i took on several
of downtown West Palm Beach’s tightest corners perfectly flat.
