THE BiTS INTERVIEW: Jerron Paxton
Jerron "Blind Boy" Paxton (born January 26, 1989) is an American
musician from Los Angeles. A vocalist and multi-instrumentalist,
Paxton's style draws from blues and jazz music before World War II
and was influenced by Fats Waller and Blind Lemon Jefferson..
He recently appeared on “Later with Jools Holland” to much acclaim.
Ian McKenzie spoke to him on the telephone at his home in New York.
JP: Hello.
BiTS: Jerron, is that you?
JP: Yes, sir. How are you?
BiTS: Hello. Thank you for agreeing to speak
to me. I gather you're in New York City, is that
right?
JP: That's it.
BiTS: You're a long way from home.
JP: No, that's where I live.
BiTS: Oh, you live there all the time, do you?
I thought you lived on the West Coast
somewhere.
JP: I haven't lived there for almost 18 years.
BiTS: Oh [chuckles], I am misinformed. I'm so
sorry. First of all, before we start, I want to talk
to you about your life and then about the new
record, can you tell me how do you say your
first name?
JP: It's Jerron, like Geronimo.
BiTS: Jerron. Oh, okay, got it. That's fine. Absolutely fine. Okay, let's make a start. Tell
me something about your growing up. Whereabouts were you born, and how did you
get into music?
