me playing a song from my U-Haul storage where I keep one of my pianos. I was playing
“Decoration Day Blues” by Curtis Jones. He liked the video and wanted me to call him. I still
remember exactly where I was when he invited me to his studio to record the album, and how I was
running in circles in a hotel room with such excitement after I hung up! Just getting to know a
musician like him has been the most precious thing. I know I have a lot of work to do, and I am so
grateful that he wanted to give me a start like this.
LL: Who were the other musicians who contributed to Blues All Over My Shoes?
HP: Michael “Lil Mike” Harris on drums, Miguel Hernandez on bass, Brandon Adams on organ, and
Kenny also played on some tracks.
LL: What’s it been like to release an album while the world is still within the grips of the
pandemic?
HP: We actually had planned to release this a lot earlier, but we kept delaying it as we were trying
to cope with the pandemic. So, when
we finally decided to just release it, I
was very relieved that the baby will
be out and do its thing, and I can
work toward the next album. The
hardest thing was to have it sit in a
can and not knowing what the next
move should be. Because this is my
first time releasing an album
nationally and internationally, with
or without pandemic, it’s full of all
kinds of feelings, and every day has
been a learning experience. I do wish
that I was more free to go out into
the world, plan more tours, but
everything is quite tricky these days.
Considering I have not really been
out there much yet, and I am very new to the scene, I am extremely grateful for everyone who has
taken the time to check this album out and want to hear my story. Like you! I appreciate you! One
thing about the pandemic, at least for me, is that every single thing has that much more meaning,
and I have been surprisingly peaceful these days, because I look to things I am grateful for. But I do
worry and care about people that are in trouble because of this pandemic or have lost the loved
one… everything is a bit uneasy these days, and I certainly hope for the end of it for us all.
LL: What can your fans look forward to coming up for you?
HP: I hope to book some tours near and far. Digging in the blues. The best thing about this job is to
perform in person. The connection we get to make through music. So, I really hope to meet more
fans in person in the coming year.
