the recording is what you get at a live performance, I am passionate about that. I just don’t sing
songs, I feel them and give it emotionally.
It can be very difficult to get Blues heard and played in the Southern Hemisphere, so in that respect,
I think I have managed to do what I set out to do.
Glenn says it is because I have vocal strength and amazing inflections.
I especially love and appreciate that title.
BiTS: Tell me about your band and how
you got together with them
Annee: Annee 2CU Blues has evolved with
many musicians over time, hence gradually
creating a strong, raw organic sound.
I have been lucky enough to work with
several band members who have been the
major musical platform for me, these
people have included Tim Biggs, Tony B,
Marcus Harrex and our musical director,
Patrick Fenemor along with my cousin
David on the earlier mentioned album. All
these people have had an enormous input
with their musical talent.
I found these musicians through word of
mouth and reputation. There have been
other musicians who have played for the
band whose skills and knowledge have also
contributed to where Annee 2CU Blues has
got to today.
My biggest influence in putting the band together has been my husband, who has loved my music
and encouraged me to sing every step of the way. His enormous belief in my singing and the band’s
ability, along with his promotional skills have directed and helped build a band we are proud of.
BiTS: Please tell me about your current record “Tropical Blues”. How did it come about? How did you
choose the tracks?
Annee: We were scheduled to record our new album when Covid initially hit New Zealand and it
stopped any chance of doing a recording due to restrictions.
Whenever we perform at a gig or rehearsal we do a live recording, sometimes on our phones,
sometimes with a video camera. As Covid stretched out longer and longer, we could see our chance
of going to a recording studio lessening, so decided to put our own live gig recordings on to an
album. Glenn (my husband) compiled this.
The album was only recently sent out and has taken off very fast. The tracks were chosen because
many of them have been my favourite songs and I love singing them. They are recognisable, or
have a style that is catchy and lots of fun to perform.
One is a song “Let’s Think of Something”, written by a fellow New Zealander (Roger Skinner) and I
felt honoured to perform this song.
