assemblements. Then Ritchie Green as well on guitar, he's the youngest and the latest addition
to the band. He's been working with us for about the last four or five years.
BiTS: Do you do a lot of rehearsing, or is it just live gigs that you do?
EL: For certain things, we rehearse, for certain tunes that are more complicated. We have to
rehearse them a bit before we play them. But a lot of the time, we try and do it live. We have a
regular gig in Brixton at the Effra Hall Tavern, and we get to air a lot of our gigs, our stuff out
there. We can play anything we want.
BiTS: What are you expecting, Errol, to happen in Memphis? Are you looking forward to it?
EL: Definitely, yeah. I'm looking forward to playing. The actual competition is quite gruelling
as in like you've got to be on the dot for every song. I'm not worried about the songs. I've got
the material, my own material that I can do. If anything, I've got to keep it definitely bluesy
[laughs]. I could say a couple of things, but I won't.
BiTS: I'm wondering whether it might be some unexpected publicity for you because, frankly,
you're the first black man that's gone there as a British musician for this competition—for this
event.
EL: All right. Wow! A band leader as well. Yes, that's it. Yeah.
BiTS: You may find you’re on the receiving end of some active publicity.
EL: Yeah, I think it’d be a good one. I mean, the band, that they're hot, you know? I mean, they're
a really good band and they know what they're doing, and we mix stuff up, different songwriting
as well, as the blues.
BiTS: Indeed, yes.
