AV: Oh, wow, cool.
BiTS: You made your first record when you were fourteen, I think. Is that right, a couple of years
after you’d started to play, according to what you’ve told me?
AV: Yeah, I’m trying to think of when my first like real record was. It was with Connor Ray Music
and it was called No Glass Shoes and I think I wrote the songs when I was about 14 or 15. I think I
was around that age and then I did another record after that called Puppet Show with Connor Ray
Music and then my recent album was Texas Honey, I just signed with Ruf Records.
Mike Zito on stage with Ally BiTS: Produced by Mike Zito. Did you get on well
with Mike?
AV: Yes, I loved working with Mike. He was so great
and he’s the one that actually introduced me to the
label and everything, so he’s been a really great
friend. Really great guitar player and producer and it
was really fun working with him [chuckling]. He let
me use my band, which was really great. I was really
happy about that.
Great British Rock & Blues Festival 2021
BiTS: He’s a very fine musician. Who do you listen to
when you’re listening to contemporary blues music?
AV: I’m a really big Joe Bonamassa fan. I love Joe
Bonamassa.
BiTS: Would you like to play at that Red Rocks venue
that he plays at?
AV: Oh yeah, that would be really fun. That would
be really cool. We actually got to play the Joe
Bonamassa cruise this year before all the crazy stuff happened which was really fun.
BiTS: That sounds terrific.
AV: And I got to see a lot of artists on there like Cedric Burnside, who was really good. He was
awesome.
BiTS: Is Texas Honey going well? Are people still buying it?
AV: Yeah, I think my fans are still keeping it alive right now, especially during COVID and I’m
really grateful to everybody that’s been supporting me, but I think it’s still well and alive and still
going but I’m going to be putting out a new album next year that I recorded in Memphis with Jim
Gaines, which I’m excited about as well.
