160 The Complete DESIGN BUILDER
Final Design
Coordination:
Prior to commencing the final design stage a coordination meeting should be held with all
design persons and professionals in attendance. The preliminary design information would be the
basis for such a meeting while establishing the design-team mandate and schedule. During the final
design process, meetings should be held as required to eliminate the inherent problems with
outside design services.
Some of the irritating problems that arise when little or no coordination is carried out are
as follows:
Discrepancies in Drawing size/scale and title block information. Dimensional
variables between structural and architectural entities. Topographical data
and bench mark not referenced too existing and finished
elevations.
Mechanical/Electrical installations conflict with Architectural clearances and layouts.
Mechanical equipment specifications conflict with electrical installations and voltages.
Structural grid and center lines do not agree with Architectural layout.
Redundant and inapplicable items included.
Although coordination meetings will not eliminate all design conflicts, they will
reduce the possibility of redesign and the extra costs and delays that will occur.
Prior to holding a Design Team coordination meeting you should have resolved the
following major items during the Preliminary Design Phase.
