Welcome to the Debutante Ball

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Alpha Kappa

Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Kappa Iota Omega Chapter's

Twenty-third Biennial Debutante Ball. Debutante Balls,

also known as coming out parties or cotillions, originated

in the British court in the late 1700s. King George III threw

a birthday party for his wife, Queen Charlotte, at which

Debutantes curtsied to her as part of the festivities. During

this period in history, Debutantes, who were all single

women, were invited to be in cotillions so they could find

husbands. Fast forward to the 1960s, Debutante Balls have

established themselves as fixtures in many American

communities.

Organizations include in their missions sponsoring Debutante Balls as a way to celebrate young

women's academic achievement and provide educational and cultural experiences that will

jumpstart careers and lives. Tonight, that is exactly what Kappa Iota Omega has done. So,

without further ado, let's celebrate the Seventeen Precious Pearls: Polished and Poised. Please
