Chapter President
Greetings,
On behalf of the members of the Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority, Incorporated, it is with joy and excitement that I welcome you to
st
our 41 Jabberwock Scholarship Program. This Jabberwock is extremely special,
as we have all persevered during a time that is unparalleled to past programs to
present a virtual scholarship program. Through this effort we are proud to present
nine young ladies who will earn scholarship funds to support their dream of a col-
lege education.
For over 108 years, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has been an organization whose purpose is to provide
assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Since
our chartering on April 4, 1947, the Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has
provided community service to support the citizens of Nash and Edgecombe counties. Rocky Mount
Alumnae Chapter’s service projects and programs are centered on the Grand Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority’s Five Point Programmatic Thrust which focuses on Educational Development, Economic Devel-
opment, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness
and Involvement. Locally, Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter supports numerous community programs in-
cluding the Boys and Girls Club, My Sister’s House, and Braswell Memorial Library. In 2020 the Chapter
established the Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Endowed Scholarship
at Edgecombe Community College.
Held bi-annually, the Jabberwock Scholarship Program is one of our signature programs. “Pearls on the
Rise … Destined to be Great!” acknowledges the talent, academic achievement, and commitment of the
young ladies to be their best selves. Today’s program culminates the past nine months of preparation and
hard work. The participants have been involved in a series of cultural, educational, and social empower-
ment activities. We commend the participants, their families, and friends for the contributions made to the
Jabberwock Program. Our sincere thanks are extended to you for your collective effort to make this a mem-
orable educational experience.
To our community partners and stakeholders, we thank you for your continuous support of our Jabberwock
Scholarship Program. Your generosity is recognized and greatly appreciated. We are extremely grateful to
the Delta Center for Life Development, Inc. for their willingness to serve as the Jabberwock fiscal agent. We
extend a heartfelt thank-you to the Jabberwock Chairperson, Mrs. Chanda Daniels-Davis, Co-Chair Mrs.
Chris Romero, and the Steering Committee. The program is the result of your willingness to share of your
time, talent, skill, creativity, and innovation. Your commitment and dedication to develop and produce a
virtual scholarship program speak volumes to your heart and passion for serving our community.
Best wishes to our participants vying for the coveted title of Miss Jabberwock 2021.
Sincere best,
Barbara B. Smith
