STEP 3: Get an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)
The purpose of the Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is to evaluate you r
educational qualification(s) against Canadian standards. If you ob tained you r education al
qualification in Canada, you do not need to undergo an ECA.
The ECA is mandatory if you are applying under the Federal Skilled Wor ker Prog ram.
The ECA is not mandatory if you are applying under the Federal Skilled Trades
Program or Canadian Experience Class.
Regardless of the program that you are applying under, having an ECA allow s you to
claim additional CRS points. Look into whether you can claim addition al poi nts for
doing an ECA.
Start your ECA as soon as you have determined that you are eligible for a prog ram
under Express Entry using the government’s Com ing to Canada tool .
Who can do the ECA?
Only an organization or a profession al bod y that has been author ized by IRCC can do
the assessment. They are:
