Innovative Teaching Methods - Emergency Medical
Procedures
Teaching in nursing is a very complex, challenging and above all responsible job. Nowadays,
the model of face-to-face teaching, in which students are often just passive listeners, is
increasingly being abandoned, and more and more is moving towards teaching in which
students are active participants in the teaching process. The active involvement of students in
classes has a number of benefits for both teachers and students, such as: encouraging interest in
the teaching process, critical thinking, developing research skills, easier definition of problems
and their resolution, and ultimately achieving better success. Through active involvement in the
teaching process, students also learn to communicate in a team, cooperate with each other,
encourage each other to engage, and are able to evaluate their own and others' work. The teacher
has an important role in directing, leading, planning, designing activities and motivating work.
In the 4th year of vocational education at Bedekovčina Elementary School, students actively
participate in the teaching process of the elective subject Emergency Medical Procedures. They
acquire knowledge and skills through simulation, through problem tasks, active involvement
and research of given topics, where they use different problem tools to create posters and
presentations.
