P. 25
Questionnaire:
What would be your approach to the developing
of our Long Range Master Plan?
McDonald Design Group will provide a dynamic, functional, and inspiring planning document
by focusing on the following two design objectives:
First, McDonald will work closely with the Club to ensure RBCC’s objectives are being met.
Yes, we are the design professionals, but we will insist on intense interaction with the Club to
be sure the program being outlined is responsive to the Club’s concerns. Our interaction
with the Club will be achieved by:
1. Significant on-site time developing the design strategies and themes
2. Working closely with a Master Plan Committee comprised of select Members and Staff
3. Extensive coordination with Mike Maney (to best understand the chronic drainage issues)
4. Potentially issuing an informal Membership survey/questionnaire
5. Potentially hosting informal focus groups with the various golfing groups
Secondly, we will be recommending design concepts that will be unique to Southern Dela-
ware and the Eastern Shore region. Although RBCC has been the premier private Club in the
region for decades, the golf course lacks the character and identity offered by a more in-
spired design vision. However, the potential for the property is outstanding—and inspiring
golf can be provided without rebuilding the green surfaces which will save significant money
and minimize playability impacts during construction.
We believe great golf course design involves much more than building solid golf holes. In-
stead, it involved creating an appropriate theme for each property that enhances the feel and
rhythm of the entire golf experience. We look forward to explaining these potential en-
hancements to your Team going forward.
Like the proceeding response on page 24, these two responses also provide an important
connection. Our bold vision for the Club will require a higher level of communication, under-
standing, buy-in, and trust. By involving and educating more stakeholders during the early
planning stages, the approval and funding processes will ultimately become much easier.
