Initial Project Planning
Our team is dedicated to work closely with the Club’s chosen clubhouse architecture firm. Having
worked with architects on many past projects we understand the importance of the comprehen-
sive clubhouse / golf course interface. A strong relationship of indoor /outdoor dining and the long
view out to the golf course are paramount.

Prior to Tim’s entry into golf course architecture, he excelled as a professional Planning Direc-
tor. His listening and communication skills will be invaluable during the Master Improvement
Planning process to ensure the Member’s views and concerns are represented. Town hall
presentations, focus group meetings, extensive interaction with the Long Range Planning Com-
mittee, and communicative drawings are all important tools we offer for developing a successful
          Master Improvement Plan.

         Detailed Design and Project Permitting
Chip McDonald, the founder of McDonald & Sons and a leader in the golf course construction indus-
try, has often relied on a favorite saying: “Pencil lead is cheaper than diesel fuel,” meaning a well-
planned project is easier to implement. As designers, Tim and Joel understand that a good design
on paper can then transform into great landforms during construction.

Our in house technical abilities include AutoCAD, computer generated take-offs, robotic total sta-
tions for detailed green surface mapping, GPS data collection and layout services. Computer simula-
tions also enhance our ability as designers to providing accurate construction documents. Given the
built-in relationship with McDonald & Sons, our cost projection and scheduling analysis are the most
accurate in the industry on every step of construction.

McDonald Design Group has worked extensively around the D.C. beltway and within Fairfax County
and understands the important regulatory process. McDonald has also built relationships with many
of the regions’ civil engineering firms considered to join the Mount Vernon Country Club effort.
