Comment This year's summer examination was based on a partial IGCSE
English language paper, exploring students' ability to write for a
specific audience, format and purpose. Their reading skills have been
tested extensively throughout the year through their coursework.
James has produced a good folder of coursework pieces and
achieved a pass in the Spoken Language Endorsement. In the
examination, he showed an awareness of purpose and audience. He
will share his ideas in class discussions, often offering interesting
points of view.
Target(s) Use the 'Pre Learning Checklist' to help support your reading of the
non-fiction texts in the IGCSE English Language Anthology in
preparation for Year 11 studies.
Read a variety of fiction and challenge yourself to read more widely,
experimenting with genres and more challenging reads.
Revise sentence structures and ambitious punctuation so you can use
these skills in the written assessments.

Comment Since Easter James has made a remarkable amount of progress in
French. He is now motivated to succeed and as a consequence been
more focused in his revision and approach to learning. James listens
well in class and takes notes accurately. He has come for advice
many times and asked for specific feedback on some pieces of work.
His speaking performance was satisfactory, but he took on the
challenge to improve on his initial score. He worked hard and
improved on it. This is commendable and must continue next year.
James will move up a set.
Target(s) James needs to understand clearly the expectations of the grammar
exercise worth 10 marks in the writing section. The exercise needs to
change agreements for adjectives when it is needed and endings for
verbs of different tenses. He will need to complete the bridging work
into Year 11 over the summer.
