P. 28

As we gradually make new, tentative steps out of the COVID lockdown, still supporting
the Royal Society for the Prevention of Health in getting vaccinated whenever possible, busi-
nesses and professions in our area are doing the same.

Through the facility of ZOOM, we have been able to meet locally and hold events where
we have invited other BPW members in the UK, in BPW Europe and in BPW International to
        join us.

Lynn Everson and Sylvia Perry took us through the BPW International mandates leading
up to the Triennium, clarifying the issues and process in a series of weekly meetings. Many
thanks for all their hard work.

The BPW UK Wednesday talks enabled us to showcase the work of the Derbyshire
Wildlife Trust and find out how many members are already involved in their own local
        projects.

Helen Ashworth attended many BPW ZOOM meetings and liaised with

members around the World to share their expertise at the YBPW UK day
and The Women’s Empowerment event in April 2021.

Helen and I also accepted the invitation of Silri Puttonen, President of
BPW Tallin, Estonia and Chair of the BPW Europe Green and Sustaina-
ble Working Group to explore what BPW is currently doing around the
world and how we can build on those initiatives and projects.

                        ‘Future friendly shopping’ Wednesday talk’

                                                                               th
The annual international Earth Day celebrated its 50
anniversary on 22 April 2022 and, following the second Wednes-
day talk organised by BPW North West & Midlands, Helen is still
working with, area based, Claire Plowes and her ‘future friendly
shopping’ concept to make it even more accessible to all commu-
        nities, however small.

After stepping down as National President, Helen, Pat Lunn and I joined the Advocacy
Working Group to develop the themes of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13
and created the Climate Change Special Interest Group.

Helen and I also signed up to support Yasmin Knight, who is now the Vice President of
the Young BPW UK Working Group and building her relationships with the BPW European and
International representatives. This included a ZOOM event where all members were invited to
attend and meet Tomi Odunsi Fadina from Nigeria, the incoming International representative
of the Young Business and Professional Women.
