The president is scheduled to come out swinging at rallies in Tucson and Prescott AZ this afternoon. A waiver will be required of all attendees, releasing the Trump campaign and the president of any liability from exposure, illness or injury related to Covid-45 — a.k.a. Covid-19, Chinese Virus, China Virus, China Curse, China Flu, China Plague, Kung Flu, China Pandemic, Wuhan Virus.
Previously considered a battleground state, Arizona polls have shown Biden ahead since mid-March. In 2016, Trump narrowly beat Clinton by 3.5 percentage points. Republicon Senator Martha McSally is significantly trailing her opponent, Mark Kelly, an engineer, retired NASA astronaut, U.S. Navy captain and prolific author.
A former U.S. Air Force pilot, McSally is the first woman to fly combat missions and to command a fighter squadron. After leaving the military in 2010, she pursed a political career. McSally was a GOP moderate who did not endorse Trump for president in 2016. However, after Trump won, she magically became a kiss-ass and loyal supporter. Her hard right turn has done little to solidify her standing among registered voters who favor Kelly by double digits.
The president has an onerous path to victory in Arizona, making Tucson a bewildering choice for a campaign rally. John Kerry (2004) and Barack Obama (2008) carried Tucson and Pima County by significant margins.
