After condemning Goodyear tires in August for prohibiting political swag in its workplaces, Trump refused to ride in presidential vehicles that rolled on Goodyear tires, which deactivated his U.S. Government wheels. Trump’s solution? An executive order signed this week requiring the Secret Service to commission a fleet of M1 Abrams tanks for Trump’s ground transportation.
Today, Trump demonstrated his chutzpah by holding a MAGA rally at the Phoenix Goodyear Airport. The word “Goodyear” was covered on all airport signs, reminiscent of White House pressure to cover the U.S.S. John McCain name or to move the destroyer out of Trump’s view when he visited Japan last year. At the time, Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan denied any knowledge of the attempted action, saying that
he would “never knowingly dishonor the memory of Sen. McCain, nor disrespect the young men and women that crew the ship.”
When asked why the Goodyear name was covered on airport signage, Kayleigh McEnemy, responded, “The president was treated very badly, very badly by Goodyear. We live in a free country where anyone can wear a MAGA hat anywhere. To work, to church, to the hospital, on
the golf course, even on the toilet. Goodyear’s policy was a slap in the face of their workers’ and our voters’ freedom of speech. The company was appropriately punished and now the president will travel in his very own M1 Abrams tank. He’s the president. He gets to have whatever he wants.”
