An anonymous source close to president Trump disclosed this morning that he is ready to deploy a new plan if the U.S. Supreme Court does not strike down the Affordable Care Act a.k.a. Obamacare. Yesterday, it appeared that a majority of justices were prepared to uphold the act. On the subject of repeal, Chief Justice John Roberts said, “I think, frankly, that they (i.e., Congress) wanted the court to do that. But that’s not our job.”
Since his inauguration in 2017, Trump has been promising a bigger and better health plan that puts “families first” – any day now. The day has never arrived. Recently, Trump insisted that unveiling his beefed-up plan must be predicated on complete and total repeal of Obamacare.
According to several reliable sources, Trump was supremely confident that he had Obamacare’s repeal in the bag after his handpicked third justice, Amy Coney Barrett, joined the court last week. Today, repeal looks more uncertain than ever, when Chief Justice Roberts and beer aficionado Brett Kavanaugh agreed that invalidating the mandate did not imply intent to kill the entire law.
According to the same source, president Trump won’t stand for any waffling among “his” justices. If the conservative justices do not come together and vote as a bloc for repeal, Trump plans to fire Kavanaugh, Roberts and any other disloyal justice.
