Narrative text fables have several distinctive characteristics,
including:
a. Main Animal Characters: In fables, the main characters are
usually animals who have human characteristics, such as
speaking, thinking and behaving like humans.
b. Forest setting: In fables, the setting used is usually in the
forest because the main characters in this story are animals.
c. Simple and Short Stories: Fables usually have simple and
easy to understand plots, often with short stories because
these fables are usually aimed at children.
3. Example of fable
4. The Greedy green caterpillar
In a guava tree, there lived a green caterpillar. Every day the green
caterpillar is always lazing around. Sleep then eat and sleep again. The green
caterpillar eats 4 leaves every day, so its body becomes fat. Meanwhile, next
to the guava tree there is a soursop tree which is inhabited by a group of
ants. They work every morning. Starting from building houses, repairing
houses, and looking for food reserves. One day the three ants saw a green
caterpillar eating the guava leaves at the top and almost touching the
soursop tree. One of the ants asked the caterpillar, “Hi, caterpillar. I see
every day you just eat those leaves without thinking that the dry season will
soon arrive. Look at your fat body." The other ants laughed at their friend's
words. The ant felt offended, "Hey, watch your words, okay? The leaves on
this guava tree are mine. So it's impossible for these leaves to run out." The
ants who heard that just shook their heads and left the green caterpillar.
Three days later the dry season came. The leaves that were originally
fresh are now increasingly wilting and dry. Likewise, there are leaves on
guava trees, because every day the caterpillars eat them in large quantities,
some of the leaves are gone and some are dry. The caterpillars began to get
