Project Title: Redesigning the Polaroid 635CL Through the Design

Philosophy of Kenya Hara

Research Scope:
Designer: Kenya Hara—his philosophy of “Emptiness”/"Haptic
clarity"/"Traditional Japanese Aesthetic", MUJI art direction, material
sensitivity, and visual minimalism.

Brand: Polaroid—brand history, identity, user experience values, and
evolution of instant cameras.

Overview:
This project reinterprets the Polaroid 635CL, an iconic instant camera,

through the design philosophy of Kenya Hara. The aim is to merge
Polaroid’s heritage of simple, joyful instant photography with Hara’s
minimalist, sensory-focused approach, resulting in a contemporary
redesign that respects both identities.

Goal:
To create a refined, modern redesign of the Polaroid 635CL that
applies Kenya Hara’s aesthetics and principles while maintaining the

functionality and spirit of the original product.
