Sickle Cell Walk
Alpha Kappa Alpha, EGO Chapter – Pink & Green Team (P>)
supported the Walk-A-Thon for Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness, Education
and Research which was held on June 3, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
at Big Spring Park Downtown Huntsville. (Registration started at 7:30
a.m.). Soror Jeneene Suttle led the P> by raising awareness and
encouraging everyone to give back by walking and/or donating to support
Target II as we participated in the North Alabama Sickle Cell Foundation
community activity.
A Sickle Cell Anemia Walk-A-Thon Team Planning/Awareness meeting
th
was on Saturday, May 20 during the Block Party and during the Greek
Picnic in order to bring awareness about the walk-a-thon. This was a huge
collaborative effort between AKA and the community.
On the day of the walk-a-thon, Sorors participated with P> by wearing pink and green. The donation total
was $1,015.00 with over 60 P> volunteers supporting the walk. (This number included over 40 AKA
EGO Chapter contributors and seven walkers.)
The funds raised during the
Walk –A-Thon will be
presented to the Sickle Cell
Foundation Director, Ms. Pam
Thompson, during our
September 9, 2017 Chapter
Meeting, so please stay tuned!
The response was
overwhelming and AKA - Pink
& Green Team exceeded the
goal of $1,000 with at least 25
supporters.
A Big “Thank You” to everyone
involved and we are looking forward to bigger and better in 2018!!
