THE EGO Ivy Informer

grudges). She instructed us to fertilize the garden generously with genuine caring, concern and compassion
and to water the garden with unconditional love.

The two breakout workshops were informative. Soror Tonya Wood,
Membership Committee Chairman, conducted the ‘Membership Intake Process”
session. Sorors were provided additional details and expectations for the chapter
and sorors as we progress through the membership intake process. We were
reminded that all sorors can participate in the process by serving as a sponsor, on
a committee, voting, attending workshops, and
                                      rituals and the luncheon.

“Don’t Let Your Pink Turn Green” was a fun and
interactive session led by Soror Yvette Evans.
                                      Conflict management, protocol, soror engagement
were topics of discussion. Sorors provided words
that described what sorors could do to prevent the workshop title from occurring -
          - respectful, communicative, inclusive, positivity, constructive, transparency and
proactive. Conflict management styles were presented and scenarios discussed.
“Nurturing the Ivy” includes adherence to the prescribed practices, principles, and
procedures of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

“Is Our Chapter At Risk? What’s the Plan” as related to Risk Management was
the next topic ably presented by Soror Adrienne P-K Washington, International
Risk Management Task Force member. Soror Washington highlighted risks
associated with sorority operations including non-member volunteers, political
activities, facility safety, and finances. We must consider risk to ensure the
perpetuity of our great sorority. The chapter will
                                     develop a risk management plan.
Remember….Every Soror Is A Risk Manager!

Success planning as related to Risk Management
was covered by Soror Wilma Ruffin, Basileus. Chapter officer duties were
addressed. It is imperative that we prepare our current and future chapter
leaders. Member expectations were addressed as well and included attending
meetings until they end, ask questions, trust your officers, and participate in all
          chapter activities.

The Retreat ended with lunch, door prizes and a question and answer session.
