United Nations Impact Awareness Day
By all accounts, the first ever Community Impact Day Community Forum
was a success! The multi-generational international audience was pre-
sented an explanation of each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs). The 17 Sustainable Development Goals were adopted by all 193
members of the United Nations in September 2015. At that time, Presi-
dent Obama pledged the full support of the United States to achieve the
goals by the year 2030. The goals are designed to end poverty, protect the
planet and ensure prosperity to all of the people all over the world. Each
goal has a specific target to be achieved over the 15 years. The goals
were presented by members of Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated,
Omicron Zeta Chapter and Rho Chi Omega Chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporation. They were
joined by members of the Model United Nation Club of Columbia High School, and ASCEND student Thornton
Stanley III. Mrs. Marian Guidry served as the Presiding Officer and a formal welcome was given by the President

Peaceful, just and inclusive societies are necessary to achieve the Sus-
tainable Development Goals (SDG'S). People everywhere need to be
free of ear from all forms of violence and feel safe as they go about their
lives whatever the ethnicity, faith or sexual orientation. Our earth is not
replaceable, we must protect it now. There is a role we can each play,
some small, some not so small: Save electricity (unplug appliances,
turn off the lights, etc.), pay online, don't print, recycle, shop local, do-
nate what you don't use, vaccinate yourself and your kids. These are a
few suggestions that will help us preserve this earth for generations to
come.
