Epsilon Gamma Omega celebrated Global Impact Week. The week began with a Social Media
Campaign highlighting The International Day of Reflection on the Genocide in Rwanda by liking and
sharing our social media posts. On Wednesday April 10th, members of Target 5 and EGO chapter
members volunteered at Weatherly Heights Baptist Church English as a Second Language (ESL) Center
for both morning and evening classes. This was such a wonderful experience for both students and
volunteers, one of which had just received his citizenship. There were classes that focused on the
development of reading skills, pronunciation, how to perform in day to day activities and a focus on public
service with recognizing those who serve on the local and federal levels. During these educational
exchanges, we had the opportunity to learn from each other and garner a level of respect for those that
are often forgotten and left behind. This was an eye-opening experience that stood out as a highlight of
the week. Weatherly Heights is enthusiastic about our presence and looks forward to our continued
support.
Global Impact Day: ”Global AwAKAning: An Evening of Cinema and Supplies” was Friday April
12th and Target 5 partnered with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the University of
Alabama, Huntsville. Cost of admission was toiletry items that will be donated to the Catholic Social
Services Refugee Resettlement Program in Mobile, AL. We viewed the awesome, dynamic and
transformative documentary entitled “God Grew Tired of Us”, which observes the trials and tribulations
of three Sudanese refugees as they try to come to terms with the horrors they experienced in their
homeland, while adjusting to their new lives in the United States. At the conclusion, this awe-inspiring
film evoked heartwarming reflections from the audience.
We wrapped up a week of enlightenment by letting the African Diaspora Unite as we showed
solidarity by wearing cultural attire to our monthly Sorority meeting. Following the meeting we
distributed immunization and school registration information in collaboration with The Links, Inc. at
their 21st Annual Multicultural Extravaganza at Alabama A&M University. We encountered several
parents who have not begun immunizing their children or were in need to registration material as they
were moving to new schools in the fall. We were making an impact!
Target 5 invites members of Epsilon Gamma Omega to our committee to serve or to expand your
awareness beyond yourselves. Remember Luke 12:48…To Whom Much is Given, Much Will Be Required.
