Park Lane Matinée Classic 2022
One of the best concerts I’ve heard at our school so far took place on March 10, at the House of Professed. Presented by several students from KS3, as well as the students of the IGCSE and IB music programme,
the works of a composer of classical music were heard, as well as pop and rock com- positions. It gave me great satisfaction to hear students sing and play and it is clear that they study music with enthusiasm, great diligence and passion.

Science Careers talks
On Friday, March 11th Year 9 students enjoyed STEM careers presentations from members of the Park Lane community,
Mr Jiří Pertold, Mr Tsz Wah Tsang and Mr Eduard Kučera. All three speakers shared their journeys to where they are now, the importance of skills needed for a suc- cessful and fulfilled working life and the broad avenues which are possible when students have STEM qualifications. A very special thank you to those who presented for giving up their time and sharing their enthusiasm.

Celebrating Science
The Science department has been celebrating science this year with the theme ‘Growth’! A fitting theme for what has been a turbulent time for all of us, ‘Growth’ links with multiple areas across science, technology, engineering and maths. Whether you decide to explore plant growth in your window box or discuss the impacts of economic growth on our society, or even consider your own personal growth over the last 12 months, ‘Growth’ offers a huge range of topics
to delve into as part of your Celebrating Science 2022.

Online computing conference
In December a group of Year 11/12 and 13 students had an opportunity to partic- ipate in the live ‘Computing in Action’ conference from London over Zoom. From entertaining lectures about financial mar- kets and algorithms behind animations to how Computational Biology can help fight cancers, our students were wowed and inspired by some of the possibilities that computing creates. See below for some of their reflections about the event:
There were many riveting lectures through- out the day. I was especially impressed with Amanda Prorok’s lecture –professor at the University of Cambridge –who gave us a fas- cinating insight into a decentralised system inspired by nature, where interactions between individual robots in a large swarm can create many interesting solutions. This method will definitely be used a lot in the fu- ture since it is much safer and more efficient to use rather than the implementation of human drivers, as the robots do not think just about just themselves, they rather think about the whole.
