SPRING SUMME R FALLING | 27
I shake my head and take a sip. Claire wipes her watery eyes – she is a bleeding
heart.
“I know!” she exclaims sitting up higher in her chair. “I’ll go punch her like you
did Charles.”
I laugh at the unexpected show of solidarity.
“No, sis, there are rules against hitting people – especially, pregnant women.
You know, endangering the child and all. Besides, she isn’t worth any legal
troubles.” I tilt my glass towards her. “I just hope she likes sitting the dark with no
cable.”
After a good round of belly chuckles, we call it a night. I have to get up early to
face Sanya. I don’t look forward to telling her about my somewhat homelessness.
The payment for the four months took more out of my savings than I like. I need
to live rent free for few months to recoup the payments and get a house. Not having
to pay utilities will help, but I will still be off my savings schedule.
I figure if I asked to stay in the house she is waiting to sell and pay half of the
mortgage, it will benefit both of us. Hopefully, if I like the house as much as I like
hers, we can work out a purchase or rent agreement.
I go to sleep hopeful for good news in the morning.
