Chapter 6
Sanya
U sually, I hate mornings. Wait, hate is such a strong word. I am lucky to be
alive and healthy enough to consider a morning workout. Plus, who
could say seeing Henry the first thing of almost every morning is a
negative thing? I want to amend my statement. I am morning intolerant.
My weekend gave me the perfect Monday morning antidote. I jog in place and
look at my watch. It isn’t like Henry to be a minute late. His being ten minutes late
officially has me worried. I start to run back to towards the parking lot to get my
phone out of my car and bump into Henry.
“Whoa, steady,” he cautions bracing me by my shoulders. “Where are you
going? You almost knocked me over.”
“I was going to check on you, rat,” I respond while swatting him. I am both
annoyed and relieved to see him. “You’re always early, and now, you’re ten minutes
late.” Something dark passes over his expression.
“Sorry. Long weekend.” We proceed to stretch and start our run. Usually, I
spend my time seeing Henry’s Adidas-covered ass because he is the far better
runner, but today I am in perfect pace with him. I stop a half mile into the run
because I can’t take it any longer. Something is off. Plus, running towards his ass
had been my extra motivation to keep moving forward during all the previous
workouts.
“Are you Henry’s twin brother or something?” He looks at me confused.
“What kind of question is that? You know I only have a sister.” He frowns but
continues to jog in place. It is too early for my usual tact and finesse. I just don’t
have it in me.
