give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit
of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD,
that He may be glorified."
The potential referenced in Isaiah can be seen in the words "Spirit" and
anointing." If unused, neither would bring Glory to God, nor make a single disciple.
Their mere presence does not accomplish a thing. Now look at the action words
which ultimately bear fruit... "preach, sent, heal, proclaim, open, comfort, console
and give." The "Spirit" and "anointing" are given to bear the fruit of preaching,
going, healing, proclaiming, opening, comforting, consoling and giving. The gifts are
given to produce fruit, which brings glory and honor to God. We must make a
conscious effort; we must choose to use what has been given to us (spiritual gifts)
by the Father, Son or Holy Spirit.
When all three of these principles are understood and applied in our lives, we are
one step closer to being the disciple Jesus desires us to be.
