India increases steel exports
again
According to the Indian Joint Plant Committee, cited by
S&P Global Platts, in March 2021, the export of finished steel
products from India reached the highest level since July last
year and amounted to 1.29 million tons.
This is more than 2.2 times higher than the same period
last year. In total, in the first quarter of this year, Indian
metallurgical companies sent abroad 2.47 million tons of steel
products, which is 26% more than a year earlier.
The largest buyers of Indian rolled products were Italy,
Belgium and Hong Kong. These three countries accounted for
48% of supplies in March against less than 17% a year earlier.
At the same time, India reduced the export of steel products to
Nepal, the UAE and Vietnam.
More than half of Indian steel products shipped abroad in
March were hot-rolled products - 676.2 thousand tons. Sales
in the first quarter totaled 1.19 million tons. Indian companies
have already exceeded the annual quota for the supply of these
products to EU countries, but hope to lift the restrictions in the
second half of the year due to the acute shortage of sheet metal
in Europe.
