The relevance of English in India also should be understood well in this context. Just a mention of the
subject will definitely raise many eye brows and will pave the way to heated arguments and excruciating
contentions. With all these the need for learning the language is at an all-time high priority. We as a
nation are extremely proud of our heritage, culture and tradition. The multiple languages in our country,
including the five classical languages are the pride of each and every Indian. Many believe that at the
onslaught of the Queen's language our regional languages will be wiped out sooner or later. Though this
fear is not baseless we cannot discard the truth that English is the language of future.
English is no more looked upon as the language of the imperialists or the remnant of
colonialism. When we consider the growth rate of India especially in the field of education, health and
women's empowerment South India fares much better than the rest of India. One of the reasons behind
this is early introduction and acceptance of English education. Gone are the days when we considered
that going across the seas will make us less Hindu or a non Hindu. A part of our country's development
depends on the foreign money we bring back home .Today we are not only just Indians but also global
citizens and proficiency in English language is not just an added skill, it is the required skill to thrive in
this competitive world.
Soon the World with out English will be a thing of past, an ancient past.
Rather than wasting time on a fruitless discussion like the probabilities and possibilities of English
language, the smart move is to have a grip on the language, the language which is and will be the
connecting line among the nations.
