I created another Post but this time for the Walking Group. I followed the same
process as outlined above but the Post category was Walking as was the
taxonomy. Below is the Post.
Posts are ideal for any group that undertakes a variety of events or activities
during the year. This could include Art History, Computer, Photography, Walking
or Garden groups as demonstrated by the examples shown in this section.
Other groups such as Wildlife, Environment, History, Science, Architecture, and
other groups that go and visit places such as wetlands, waterworks, historical
properties, museums, galleries, and sites of architectural significance could all
benefit from this feature. A blog-type article such as these Posts is not that
difficult once you’ve done it a couple of times and is the sort of things that
Group Leaders could support.
Some u3as have a monthly or quarterly magazine. Posts are not meant to
replace the magazine but to complement it. The magazine is usually designed
for the entire local u3a group and therefore of general interest. It is often space-
limited with only one or two photos. A Post can be viewed by anyone but is
more for the group and it can contain specific detail that general members could
find boring but also it can display many more photos.
Over time a page could accumulate a large number of Posts. You can set the
maximum number of Posts to appear on any one group page in the Reading
menu within Settings on the Dashboard (Blog Posts). The older Posts can remain
on site and be accessed by a link.
There is much more to the Query Loop block with many different options and
uses but you can learn them as you need them in the fullness of time. For now
you have a fair introduction and even if you have no WordPress experience you
should be able to follow this and create some Posts on your own site.
In the appendices you will find a list of u3a SiteWorks Pioneer websites plus
known other u3a WordPress sites that you can view and get ideas from for your
