Practice using u3a SiteWorks on your own content
The plan is that you will be using the data you receive at this stage to practice
your new knowledge and skills. The objective of this is NOT to make your site
beautiful ready for publication as you will not be taking it with you to the next
and final step which is migration. Please do not spend lots of time perfecting
every page. Please concentrate on the big picture of your whole website as well
as trying out the product features that caught your imagination and that you
think you can use to good effect.
All of our sites are different with different page content. What our pages will look
like in the future and how much work each will need is also different. This is
regardless of whether you are opting for a migrated content site or a starter site.
As you create or edit your content to see what it will look like keep a note of how
long it took you on each page you work on. You can look at the other pages that
you haven’t worked on and compare them to the ones you have to estimate how
long each will take. Total up the numbers and double them to give you a rough
idea how long it is going to take to get your site to the standard you want before
publishing it. Estimate a time allowance for the background tasks such as
populating and checking venues, contacts, and so on plus an allowance for
Admin tasks such as setting group display default, cloaking contacts if desired,
and setting up User permissions. Whatever your grand total is will be a guide as
to how much time you are going to need to put aside to work on your site before
               going live.

At this moment the Site Builder data you receive is simply a snapshot in time. A
nominal two weeks is estimated for part 2 but you will be driving the timescales
again and telling the team when you are ready to move on so it could be shorter
or longer than this. Perhaps you feel ready sooner but your Migrator is tied up
elsewhere. In that case it might be longer anyway, particularly in the early days
as the whole team builds up expertise. If that same data was used to migrate
and you had been in the migration queue for several weeks then by the time you
migrated it would be well out of date. At migration you will get a brand-new up-
to-date copy of your site content.

               Help
If you can’t get your data to work at all then please contact your Migrator but if
you want to do something that has not yet been covered in this workbook then
please write that question down and hold it for the Migrator as he/she will be
looking at individual site quirks at that time.
Please remember that you will not be a WordPress or web page design expert at
this stage and that your knowledge and skill will continue to develop in the
coming weeks and months. You will be able to play an active part in migration
and be able to create/edit/maintain your u3a SiteWorks website. You should
also be able to create some pretty stunning pages. Just look at some of the
Pioneer sites for inspiration of you need any.
