Continue Migration or go for Starter site?
As outlined earlier it is at this stage of the process that you can make your
choice about whether to proceed with migration or whether to proceed with a
Starter site. To make an informed decision you need to consider the data that
has been migrated and how much of it you want to use with a little tidying-up,
how much you want to use or repurpose that will need to be moved around
and/or reformatted, how much you want to discard, how much media you have,
and what your vision is for your future u3a website. Which will be the easiest and
most time-effective for you? Brand new u3as will certainly be going the Starter
site route but migrating Web Managers can choose what is best for them and for
their u3a.
If there is more that you want to keep than discard then continuing with
migration is likely to be the better option for you as it is easy enough to delete
things you don’t want to keep and add in new content. If there is little content
you want to keep then a Starter site could be a better option but then you will be
starting from zero and adding everything. If you want page-by-page redirection
then the migrated option will provide this. If you are not sure then wait to talk to
your Migrator who can discuss options and advise you.
If you look at the chart below you can see the process. You are currently in the
Training Workbook/ Site Builder data extract box at the top.
There is no process advantage in
your choice as you will receive
the help of a Migrator during the
migration and you will have
identical support with a Starter
site.
Your decision is therefore based
on current content, future vision,
and time available.
Either way the more you can do
in advance as regards planning
and preparing content the easier
your migration will be for you.
