Sharing
The study of the Market was a fun ex-
perience for all of us in Grade III. We learned
a lot about the vegetables and fruit market.
Firstly we visited Thimi farm to learn about
growing vegetables. We saw many farmers
working in the field and also took their inter-
views. After the interview, we came to know
how the vegetables that we eat reach our table.
We also made a hypothesis of it. Our next trip
was to Kalimati Wholesale and Retail market,
we observed the two different kinds of mar-
kets. We also interviewed one person from the
Wholesale and one from the retail market and
learned a lot about them. Then again we went
on another trip to Bhatbhateni Supermarket
where we observed how the supermarket was
set up and the prices. It was a short trip but
we enjoyed it. After all these trips, we came to
know the difference between wholesale, retail,
and supermarkets. We learned that supermar-
ket was the most expensive, organized, and
clean of all three markets that we visited. Since
we had visited many markets and had a lot of
ideas about markets, we decided to set up our
own market.
We started to plan for our market and
wrote a loan letter to Ms. Milan Dixit, our
Principal asking for a loan of Rs. 50,000. After
our loan was approved, we planned the layout
of our market and also a name for our mar-
ket. With everyone’s agreement, we decided
on Fresh Paradise Market as the name of our
market. We also made different posters for the

promotion of our market and worked on invitation cards
for different teachers. Then our teachers went to buy the
different fruits and vegetables from the wholesale market
to sell in our Fresh Paradise market. So in order to sell
them we made paper bags because those are environmen-
tally friendly.
Before our market, we weighed and packed the
peanuts as well as the potatoes in the paper bags that we
made. From the weighing activity, we all learned how to
weigh and pack. The main market day was coming near
and all of us were really excited about the market. We
make labels and price tags for fruits and vegetables. We
also learned to use the calculator to calculate the total
price.
Our market was for two days. All of us were
assigned different jobs and had different shifts to do our
jobs. First 16 students were assigned jobs and then the
rest of us went to the library to watch a movie. Later
after lunch, 16 of us did our work and the rest went to
the library. At the end of the first day, we calculated how
much we sold and the amount earned. Then the second
day was also the same. Our parents also came to help us
in our market. Grades 1 to 5 were our customers and we
sold all the items. At the end of our two-day market, we
calculated the profit and found out that we had made a
profit of Rs 24,000. It was a good amount. We were really
happy because we had put in a lot of effort. We learned a
lot from each of the activities that we did the entire term.
They were all very interesting and fun to do. The overall
market study was a huge success for all of us.
