Mechanism:
The wall of RBCs contains catalase enzyme which
converts hydrogen peroxide reagent into water and nascent
oxygen which oxidizes benzidine into benzidine blue:
H2O2 >>>> H2O + [O]
4. Ketone bodies acetone, acetoacetic acid, and B-
hydroxybutyric acid
It is the presence of detectable amounts of ketone bodies
Ketonuria
in urine.
1- Low CHO diet
2- Diabetes mellitus.
3- Excessive fat in diet.
Causes
4- Starvation.
All of the previous conditions cause the breakdown of fats
→ acetyl COA → ketone bodies.
Rothera test: (general test for all ketone bodies) →
magenta red color.
