Handling Social Isolation
As of currently 7.4 millions cases worldwide,15% unemployment rate per
country on average and no vaccine till now, any individual can go into
depression , helplessness and feel loneliness.
Staying at home can be quite nice for some time, but can also be boring and
restricting. Here are some ways to keep positive and cheerful.
1. Be busy. Have a regular schedule. Help in doing some of the work at
home.
2. Distract yourself from negative emotions by listening to music, reading,
watching an entertaining program on television. If you had old hobbies like
painting, gardening or stitching, go back to them. Rediscover your
hobbies.
3. Eat well and drink plenty of fluids.
4. Be physically active. Do simple indoor exercises that will keep
you fit and feeling fit.
5. Sharing is caring. Understand if someone around you needs
advice, food or other essentials. Be willing to share.
6. Elderly people may feel confused, lost and need help.
Offer them help by getting them what they need, their
medicines, daily needs etc.
7. If you have children at home, keep them busy by allowing them to
help in the household chores-make them feel responsible and
acquire new skills.
8. Change your mindset - Avoid thinking too much about the
future or worst-case scenarios. It can trigger anxiety. Instead
say to yourself 'I'll make it through “rather than saying “I'll never
recover”
Try watching videos on meditation and practicing them.
9. Practice gratitude. Studies suggest finding something to be
grateful for everyday improves mood. So jot something down
and say “I'm thankful for this thing in life
10. A Word with helpline- If you find yourself with very poor
mental health while isolated during corona virus and aren't able
to pull yourself out of feelings of anxiety, depression, or fear, it is
important to reach out for help. Consider calling a crisis line or an
online therapy service to find out about options. While it's normal
to feel afraid and lonely at a time like this, worsening mental
health could indicate the need for outside help.
