Taking to the Range
DDS OIS Investigators were at the Covington Police Department range April 19th and 20th to get some additional
practice with their department issued firearms in advance of annual qualifications in June. Each year, as a
condition of their Georgia Peace Officer Certification, DDS investigators must successfully qualify with their
department issued weapons, as well as undergo a refresher course in use of force.
DDS is fortunate to have investigators on staff who are also P.O.S.T. certified firearms instructors. P.O.S.T. is an
acronym for the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council.
P.O.S.T. was established in 1970, and is responsible for the certification and regulation of Georgia's peace
officers and other various public safety personnel. Additionally, POST is responsible for establishing the
minimum training standards and curriculum of the personnel certified by the agency.
