the golden barrel cactus a favourite in our dry gardens (above left). Then we come
to their extraordinary succulents: over a hundred Echeveria species (above right);
and Euphorbias like E. pulcherrima, Poinsettia (below left) being one of the most well
known species, and grown throughout Botswana.
If we look at our less ‘dry’ gardens, I’m sure you’ll find the Mexican marigold, Tagetes
erecta (below middle), and Mexico’s national flower, the Dahlia (below right), which I
grew in mine this year, along with the Ponytail palm, Beaucarnea recurvata (above middle),
a popular garden and pot plant. The huge variety of Mexican plants that grow easily
and well in this country, means there is plenty of choice when creating either a
Mexican themed garden, or a dry garden. With the exception of Dahlias, these plants
need very little water, maintenance or fertilizer to do well. Text by S.C & Pics: Pixabay
