Fun stuff- topiary

Topiary is the horticultural practice of clipping the foliage of plants to
develop and maintain clearly defined shapes, a type of living sculpture. It
can be as precise or as freeform as you may wish.

Some plants can be bought from nurseries with differently shaped wire structures for an
easy way to maintain the form of your topiary as the plant grows. For a fun project you
can always make your own wire shape and place it over a young plant that can grow into
the wire structure. Easy plants for topiary projects in Botswana include Duranta, Thuja,
Plumbago, Syzgium (Brush cherry), Murraya (Orange Jasmine) and Hibiscus species.

For something different and indigenous to our southern african region you could also
try Euphorbia tirucalli or Portulacaria afra which are both extremely easy to grow and are
often used as living fences in villages around the country. by S.C (Photos Pixabay)
