Cadet Adventure Training in GM Wing
Each year, cadets from across Greater Manchester Wing take part in various Adventure Training
activities, including Mountain Biking, Rock-climbing and Paddle Sports amongst others. Many staff
are trained in various disciplines including our very own Wing Commander.
In July 2019, cadets travelled to Fairbourne, on the Welsh coast for a week of
adventure training. They took part in navigation day walks, mountain biking, rock
climbing and paddle sports. Staff from across the Wing, Region and Corps were
all on hand to offer the very best in training and guidance so that the cadets got
the most out of the experiences they had, this makes the whole week thoroughly
enjoyable for both cadets and staff, this has taken place for many years, with
cadets wanting to go again and again. Unfortunately due to the pandemic the
Fairbourne camp 2020 was cancelled but another Adventure Training week is
planned for 2021.
A bit closer to home, cadets have engaged in paddle sports activities
at The Anderton Centre, on the banks of Rivington Reservoir in
Chorley. Cadets from across the wing have participated in kayaking,
Paddle boarding and canoeing, plus plenty of swimming after they
have fallen in!
Normally during the month of May the Wing runs a camp at RAC Altcar for a large number of cadets that
incorporates significant amounts of adventure training .
“Skills Week” is a very popular camp regularly attended by large numbers of cadets and staff. Cadets
undertake various pursuits at Bronze Silver and Gold level including watersports, climbing and other non AT Air
Cadet activities. Needless to say places on Skills Week are always highly sought after!
