What was it like to meet the Queen?
It was Amazing! I’m blessed to have been twice and these things only happen be-
cause people bother to write you up for it, which is all born from team endeavour, I
just happened to be in the position. To stand in front of the Queen and have a
conversation with her about Tornados and to have your wife and daughter blubbing
from 15 feet away from you, is really special. Its testament to my career.
Do you think that the future of combat is going to be fought through Cyberspace?
It’s being fought there now. You’ll have seen stuff in the last week about the
Russians pushing Covid vaccines and not so long ago they were interfering in elections in New Zealand and
America. I think the people working in cyber are really busy trying to keep the door shut and keep us safe. That
workload is only going to grow as we progress and more of our kit becomes interconnected. The cat is out of
the bag now in cyber and there’s no putting it back in, we just need to stay one step ahead of our adversaries.
Air, Sea, Land and cyber are already domains and space is now something that we’re very much interested in
due to the potential of it being weaponised.
What are you most looking forward to as Commandant of the RAFAC?
Selfishly, I’m really pleased to finally be in a job where I can put my head on my own pillow at the end of the
day. I’m also really excited to be able to celebrate in all of your success and spending time with the cadets
themselves. Job number 1 is getting everybody back to face to face activities safely. Ultimately, we have to
plan for success and we must get back to the national level competitions in Sports, Drill, etc and get you back
onto RAF stations on blue camps again.
