GM Wing Staff Development
As with any organisation the RAFAC has to prioritise the
development of its older cadets and new staff members
to ‘future proof’ the organisations successes.
The Development Team have, in the past 18 months
been looking at the ways we can improve, both Cadets
to Staff retention and look at ways to deliver a tailored
package of initial training to our new CFAVs.
Sqn Ldr Hamilton (Chief of Staff), Flt Lt Roberts
(Development), Flt Lt Kostecky (Trainer) and WO Cooper
(Wing Warrant Officer) have designed a package of
courses that will hopefully meet our aims of recruiting
new uniform CFAVs and improve retention of some of
our older cadets.
‘Is Uniform for me’
A one-day course to introduce to candidates an idea of what each Cadre (Non-Commissioned or Commis-
sioned) looks like from a practical point of view. Presentations from existing uniform members of staff and
information regarding the required commitment to be a successful uniformed CFAV. In addition information is
given regarding the next steps to progress.
Potential Uniform Training Course
This is a two-day training and assessment course where basic leadership and followership are taught along
with basic foot drill and uniform upkeep and cleanliness. The staff on the course will carry out a mixture of
discussions, debates and practical tests to equip them for the assessment day which follows the successful
completion of this course.
Assessment Day
This is a full day course, the morning split into NCO and Commissioned candidates with differing tasks set of
them. All will complete a lead on a leadership task and all will carry out a drill assessment. If the candidate is
successful on the first part then a promotion board (SNCO) or a P2 Interview (Commissioned) will take place in
the afternoon. Those candidates if successful will progress onto the next stage.
New Staff training course
This course runs once a week at the WTC in Ashton and is a 12 week rolling programme of training to equip
new CFAVs into the organisation. The weeks training includes, Heartstart, Bader Systems, Presentation
Skills, Delivering a talk, Ultilearn and Mandated Qualifications,
Basic foot drill, specialist talks from Subject Matter Experts about specialising within the RAFAC, future oppor-
tunities for development within the RAFAC and finally graduating and being released to the Squadron of their
choice.
I hope this little article gives you some idea of the work
being undertaken by the development team, which due
to the pandemic has obviously been put on hold since
March. Hopefully 2021 will see us returning, and begin to
deliver on our plans.
