SUMMER CAMP STAFF POLICIES & PROCEDURES
STAFF CONDUCT
The Tampa YMCA Summer Camp Staff are accountable for their actions and must abide by specific policies and procedures covered in the Handbook. Staff are expected to show good judgement at all times and always act appropriately and professionally. Summer Camp is a 10-week season and it is the responsibility of the staff to make sure they are receiving adequate rest during time off to properly conduct themselves throughout the week. Staff members will refrain from participating in camper activities but will be responsible for explaining and overseeing the activities. (Ex – cannot play soccer, basketball, etc.) Will need to be supervising, not participating.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Each Summer Camp staff member must complete all required trainings, including the Association wide camp training, as well as any Center based trainings before starting in their camp role. All trainings must be documented on the Training Checklist provided. Each staff member must be qualified in their role and have obtained any certifications or experience required for their position prior to starting in their camp role.
DRESS CODE
Campers can see staff wherever they are on YMCA property and as a staff member you have accepted the responsibility of being a role model. Come to work prepared wearing your camp shirt (2 will be given), khaki/black/navy shorts (MUST be fingertip in length), sneakers, , water bottle, pocket first aid kit (band aids, gloves, sanitizer given at training), binder/clip board, and backpack. Optional items are a watch and/or a hat. Please dress neatly and presentable, outrageous dress or behavior is not appropriate. From time to time, we will have theme days and camp staff will be encouraged to dress up along with the campers. Name tags must be worn at all times even during theme days.
PERSONAL EQUIPMENT, ELECTRONICS, VEHICLES, ETC.
Camp staff and campers (outside of technology programs) are not given permission to use electronics at any time. This may only be approved by the Camp Director and must be approved prior to use. Speakers and music should be kept and played in designated areas and at designated times. When selecting music to be played, please be attentive to campers and respectful of other staff members and members of the Y. Ear buds or headphones are not to be used at camp unless approved by the Camp Director.
Staff personal equipment (such as, but not limited to, sports equipment, electronics, and vehicles) should not be utilized at camp at any time and the Tampa YMCA is not responsible for loss or damage to any personal property. All vehicles should be driven at posted speed limits or below and parked/ secured in designated spaces during work hours, along with, not being utilized for any work related tasks.
