BATHROOM PROCEDURES
Bathroom layouts vary by center, however, policies and procedures below apply to all camps!
Staff members should never take children one-on-one to the bathroom. Campers going to the bathroom must travel in groups at a minimum of 3 campers with a staff member. When possible, use single-use bathrooms. When using bathrooms with stalls, staff members must follow these procedures:
1. Staff members must first clear the bathroom of all members and non-camp personnel.
2. No more campers should enter the bathroom than there are available stalls.
3. Staff members should stand with one foot in and one foot out of the bathroom opening, keeping the door open.
4. Face counts should be completed when taking campers to the bathroom and when returning to the camp rotation.
5. Campers should never enter a bathroom 2 at a time. They should either enter individually or at a minimum of 3 campers at a time.
EXTREME HEAT/RAINY DAYS
During extreme heat/rain/lightning, camp will enter rainy day protocol when instructed by the Camp Director.
When rainy day protocol is enacted, staff members should follow their center’s rainy day schedule and procedures.
All camp operations and safety measures remain intact during rainy day procedures.
SUPERVISION & POSITIONING OF STAFF
For the protection of the campers and counselors, we have implemented specific requirements regarding supervision:
1. All staff members must maintain their specified ratios throughout their shift.
2. Staff members should always be spread out so that all areas of the program area can be seen.
3. If you are with a group alone, staff members should remain standing and moving to oversee the area as a whole.
4. If multiple staff are present, one staff can oversee the large area while other staff work directly with small groups.
5. Staff members must ensure that campers are under direct visual supervision at all times.
6. Cell phone use is prohibited.
TRANSITIONS
Staff members must conduct a face count before they transition to a new area and when they arrive at their new rotation.
When transitioning with a group, staff members must maintain visual supervision of their group at all times.
Small games and chants are helpful to maintain group focus and control during transitions.
