Music player, music speaker, sparkly magic bag, rocket laminate and magic sparkles
Lesson plan
1. Warm-up: ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ performed by The Wiggles

3. Travel to Storyland

4. Introduce the theme
“Let’s take a look in the sparkly magic bag and see what clue there is for today’s story.” Take out the rocket laminate. Ask the children the following questions.
a) “What is in this picture?”
b) “What colour is my rocket?”
c) “What sound does a rocket make when it blasts off?” Ask a volunteer to
demonstrate.
d) Everyone makes the sound as they pretend to be rockets taking off.
e) Askavolunteertonameanotherformoftransportthatmovesthroughthesky(e.g.
helicopter, rocket, hot air balloon etc.). You act out flying the suggested mode of transport (using upper body) and the children copy you. Repeat using ideas from three more volunteers.

5. Action song or poem: ‘Zoom, Zoom, Zoom’ (traditional)

Tell the children that you’re all going to fly to the moon! “Can you show me how you can make a rocket with your hands?” Perform the song twice acapella with the following actions.
Zoom, Zoom, zoom, (press your palms together to make a ‘rocket’, moving them from side to side to the pulse)
We’re going to the moon. (as above)
Zoom, zoom, zoom, (as above)
We’ll be there very soon. (as above)
If you want to take a trip, (walk the fingers of one hand up your other arm)
Climb aboard my rocket ship. (continuing above action on the same arm)
Zoom, zoom, zoom, (press your palms together to make a ‘rocket’, moving them from side to side to the pulse)
We’re going to the moon. (as above)
